(More customer reviews)Before buying this, I read the Amazon reviews about the switch burning out and I figured that these people had probably wired up the product without a relay so that full power was flowing through the switch. Of course, it would burn out. I'm pretty good at doing custom electrical accessory installs into 12-volt systems so I figured that the Amazon complainers were just doing it wrong.
When I got mine, before doing the custom install, for testing purposes I left the manufacturer's wiring harness intact, with relay, and gave the seat heater a try. Worked fine on both high and low at first and then, guess what? The switch burned out within 4 hours. Boo! The switch has an automatic shut-off feature, and this wasn't it. My pad is simply dead. I tested the wiring with my multimeter and there is definitely power going to the switch from the relay, but no power coming from the switch back to the relay trigger. Also, there is a LED light in the switch to indicate on/off status, and the LED is also dead.
The seat heater comes with a 36-month warranty, but really people, why would I want to send it back to get another one? My next step is to replace the WarmSeats switch with a decent switch that works. Or even one of those $9 Chinese LED light dimmers should work (available at the popular auction website that Amazon won't let me mention the name of).
