(More customer reviews)The 2007-2008 cargo cover rolls out or retracts like a window shade. It's easy to use and easy to remove. When not needed, it takes up next to no room and can easily placed out of the way making it unlikely to be damaged when the car seats are flat and the vehicle fully loaded. The only criticism I have is that there is a gap between the back seats and the cargo shade which can be minimized, but not eliminated, by putting the back seats in their reclined position. To solve this issue, I carry a black sheet to cover any visible stuff in the cargo hold to make sure nothing can be seen through the windows.
The 2009 cargo carrier has been redesigned. I saw it yesterday at a car dealership and I'm still stunned by its design. It's just like the cargo carrier in the 2001 Ford Focus hatchback! The same string hanging mechanism, the same molded, bulky material and although it lies more flat than the Focus's when not in use, it's still not easily managed lying about in the car with all the seats down. It takes up a lot of room, plus, I doubt it would be a good idea to let things like bikes or heavy items bump into it. On top of this, Honda's solution to eliminate the "gap" between the back seats and the cargo carrier is really deranged. They installed these large flaps of fabric which get snapped into the back of the seats. Note that this means the cargo carrier probably will need to be "installed" by the dealer. So you have these huge snaps sticking out of the back of the seats when you have the seats fully flat for cargo and when you have them upright, you have to snap these fabric flaps back in place or the fabric hangs down and gets in the way in the back cargo area. The salesman at the car dealership could not get it all snapped back together and they've just left the flaps hanging down. I have owned Hondas for many, many years and this is the first time I've been appalled by something they've designed. It's so bad, I'm thinking of waiting for the 2010 Fit. Maybe THIS is why there were so many Fits in the lot for sale! Plus, I think it's ridiculous a cargo cover is considered an option. You actually have to pay extra for this thing.
