I've been looking for a seat cover for quite some time for my 2008 Pontiac G8 GT. I want a seat cover for a couple reasons. We have a small Jack Russell Terrier and his nails can be quite sharp despite trimming them every week. So I'd like to protect my soft leather rear seats from that. The second reason is my wife and I are having a baby in February. I wanted something that would be water resistant and easy to clean. When looking for a seat cover I primarily wanted something that would fit the seat well and would be somewhat stylish at the same time. Since I have a nice car, I didn't want it to look crappy on the inside. I know, with a baby and a dog, that's going to be difficult, but I'm going to try.
So from everything I could gather from my research on the internet and all the reviews and ratings, these covers seemed to fit all my criteria. And on top of that they actually matched my current seats with the red inlays.
I knew going into it that I would have to remove the seat bench in order to put the bottom cushion cover on. Not a problem, mine just pops up in the front and then it pulls right out. What I didn't realize, and nowhere did it state, is I'd have to remove the seat backs as well in order to get them on. Only a few bolts and some manuvering of some clips and those come out too. The only piece of the seat I DIDN'T have to remove was the center armrest.
The center armrest piece is the piece that fits the worst. There's a few things wrong with it. They put velcro on the piece that goes over the top and around the sides, but there's nothing on the back of the armrest to attach the velcro to. The part that goes over the top also covers up the latch that holds the center armrest in place. It's also not long enough. There's some thicker pieces sewn into the bottom that are supposed to be tucked between the back and bottom cushions, but the cover isn't long enough to be tucked. It seems to be too wide as well, but without something to attach the velcro to on the back, it's impossible to get it tight. So I had to cut a hole in part of it so I could latch the armrest closed, but as soon as I tried opening the armrest, it fell off completely. Right now this piece is just stashed in the trunk until I can figure out some way to install it a little more securly.
The parts that go on the rest of the seat back fit a little bit better, but still nowhere near what I would call acceptable. As I mentioned above, I had to remove the seat back in order to put these pieces of the cover on. The same problems I mentioned above about being too wide, and not long enough apply here as well. At least the back of the seats had a small strip of velcro I could attach to, but I couldn't tuck the other side in enough to get a nice tight fit.
And of course the seat cushion cover doesn't fit very well either. I will say that it was nice that it had straps on the bottom to get a nice tight fit. However, with the straps tightened I couldn't get the cushion reinstalled. I had to loosen the straps thereby defeating their purpose in the first place. One of the straps goes right across the whole in the cusion that the belt buckles are supposed to come through so that needed to be pushed out of the way before I could get the cushion in. When I tried to put it in, I couldn't push it back tight enough so I could engage the clips in the front. After I finally got it in, it's not a tight fit at all, is bunched up in the center, and the belt buckles don't come through the cover making it a little difficult to fasten the seat belts in the rear.
So given that none of these pieces fit properly, the fact that I had to tear out my entire back seat which wasn't ANYWHERE in the product description or the documentation that came with the covers, the fact that now anyone who rides in the back seat has to screw around with the belt buckle just that much more, and the fact that I can't even use the armrest cover and had to cut a whole in it just to make it work, I only give these CUSTOM FIT (maybe they don't understand what "custom fit" means when it comes to these types of products) seat covers one star.
